Dandelions remind me so much of being yo
The Vision of Dandelion House

Dandelions remind me of being young and curious. I would pick them up, pull them apart, try to count the seeds, lose count, twist them into flower crowns and wear them until they wilted. Rub them on my hand until it was yellow, my favorite color.

I remember being told they were bad, because they were weeds. Although I never really understood what it meant to be a weed, I remember learning to unlove them. Something I used to adore lost its beauty, not because they changed, but because it was implied that I should not love them anymore.

I am pleased to report that today as an adult, Dandelions have prevailed over this societal stigma. I love that they brightly assure us it is warm enough to walk barefoot outside, and how they help our little bee friends.

I have found through my own observations on this life journey, that we all enter life courageous, curious, and creative. Sadly we begin to unlearn these beautiful behaviors as we encounter poor examples and judgements of others. If we are lucky, we come into our adulthood and begin to pick apart these insecurities and learn to be true to our inner child again.

I am passionate about teaching art to children because I love watching their creative process. I wish to always nurture this curiosity and risk taking kids embody so effortlessly. As our world problems get ever more complex and daunting, creativity is truly the most valuable resource we have. Traditional methods of teaching have led us to forget that, and its the mission of Dandelion Art Camp to celebrate children for their unique expressions.
